Uh...this thing on?

[Unknown to Jaime, the device actually is on, but nothing can be seen. Only his voice can be heard, and it's pretty easy to tell he's rather confused, maybe even a little panicked. Moments later, the video finally clicks on, revealing a dark-haired young man with a confused look that matches his voice.]

Finally! Okay, is anybody there? [A pause. He debates on whether or not he should call the team out, considering anybody could be out there...like the Light or something. Who knows? On top of that, his scarab's not working, so he's sure things could get bad fast. Still couldn't hurt to try!]

Nightwing? Impulse? Robin? Anybody? What's going on? Where exactly are we...if we're all here anyw—

[When he looks off to the side for a moment, as something else caught his attention, his face shifts from confused to extremely freaked out once he sees what it actually is.]

—dios mio! You again? Why's a monster beetle following me around everywhere?!

[The camera's suddenly really shaky, but the view finally shifts to a Heracross moving toward the camera. It looks friendly enough and hasn't tried attacking him since he's been here. Said monster beetle actually looks kind of cool, but that's not the point here. To Jaime, cool-looking or not, beetles shouldn't be that big, and he doesn’t have his gear to fight it off, so he’s really terrified and his next step is to bolt again. Never mind that it's actually his new partner or anything since he was the one who opened the pokeball.]

Always? H-hey, don't panic! It's your Pokemon partner!

[But always?? Giant beetles are a thing in this kid's world?]

[You don't know the half of it, Maka. He began walking away, but it's happening again. Heracross still won't let up.]

Seriously! I don't know what your deal is, but I'm 100% sure the tree sap is better than--

[He takes a moment to look back at the Pokegear once he hears a voice finally respond. On top of not recognizing his surroundings, he doesn't recognize her, either. He looks even more confused now.]

He's my what?

Your...um...Pokemon partner. He's supposed to be your companion in this world. You'll probably get a lot of people explaining the context of this, and it's all in your 'Gear too.

I know it sounds crazy, but he's not going to hurt you.

Yeah, this is...crazy probably doesn't begin to cover it. Good to know he won't hurt me, though. Do they give everyone here a Pokewhatsit?

Yep! [And she pulls out a Pokeball from somewhere out of view, which opens to reveal a flying squirrel sort of-looking creature, which immediately attaches itself to the top of her head.]

This is mine, she's an Emolga. I named her Bolt!

[He leans in a bit to get a closer look at the squirrel.]

Man, that's...that's really cool. So, it's. She's called an 'Emolga' instead of just, you know, a squirrel?

Yeah! It's weird, a lot of these Pokemon do look like animals you'd find on Earth, but the name of their species is completely different. Yours looks like a Hercules beetle, but it's actually called a Heracross.

--Oh, and they have abilities that regular animals wouldn't too. Like Bolt here can produce electricity from her body. [Or rather the cute little spots on her cheeks. Bolt handily demonstrates this herself by charging her beloved trainer's pigtails with static electricity.

...Maka tries to hold a straight face, but eventually cracks a smile, cheeks reddening, and she returns Bolt to her Pokeball.]

They have personalities all their own, too.

[His eyes widen in surprise when he sees Bolt's demonstration.]

Man, that's pretty hardcore. Now I gotta find out what Heracross does.

[Someone was a little excited over here until he suddenly found himself being lifted off the ground with Heracross's horn.]

Woah! Okay, okay! I get it. You can put me down, now. [And he does. Once that's out of the way, he awkwardly smiles back into the feed.]

It's a good thing they're all on our side if they can do all that stuff, though.

[Sorry, Jaime, Maka can't resist laughing at the little display.]

Ehehe--yeah, more often than not you have to worry about the trainers behind the Pokemon as opposed to the Pokemon themselves.

[He probably would have laughed, too, if it happened to someone else. Heh.]

Really? I guess that's not hard to believe. It's kind of like the people back home who abuse their superpowers.

Anybody with power, really, people can be terrible sometimes.

--Ah, you know what? I just realized that I introduced Bolt but not myself! My name is Maka!

Oh. Oh, right. At least you introduced someone. I didn't at all, but I'm Jaime. And this is, uh...Heracross.

[Rubbing the back of his neck as his partner just gives him a look. Heracross'll get a name eventually.]

You'll get used to having him around eventually. Heck, before you know it you'll be collecting other Pokemon too, to expand your team. This is quite a world we've been brought into.

Heh. Already looking forward to it.

[It doesn't quite beat having his armor, but this could be fun.]

How big is your team?

Mine? About five, including this egg that still needs to hatch--[and she pans the camera over to an egg sitting in a bundle of blankets.] So I'm at my limit for how many you can have traveling with you at a time. Oh--right, I should mention it too that Pokemon lay eggs. All Pokemon, no exceptions. And people sell them on the network sometimes, so you should keep an eye out of there's something you want.

[He leans into the screen some when he sees the egg.]

All of them? Even the ones that, like, look like mammals or something? If there are mammal-like Pokemon around, anyway.

Yep...all of them. Even Bolt could lay eggs if she found a nice compatible Pokemon to do that with. Not that I'm ready to take care of baby Emolgas yet.

Wow, that's...interesting?

[He's not even sure what to call that, to be honest. Mammals laying eggs. Johto what are you even]

...It's okay, you can call it weird. It's pretty damn weird.

[That earns a chuckle out of him.]

Okay, yeah. Weird really covers that. And waking up here.

Yeah, and "Mom" treating you like...well, like she's your mom. I'm starting to think she might be some robot at this point what with how determined she is to ignore that she's so obviously not anyone's mom that comes through here.

But at least she doesn't follow you or call you on the PokeGear.
