Uh...this thing on?

[Unknown to Jaime, the device actually is on, but nothing can be seen. Only his voice can be heard, and it's pretty easy to tell he's rather confused, maybe even a little panicked. Moments later, the video finally clicks on, revealing a dark-haired young man with a confused look that matches his voice.]

Finally! Okay, is anybody there? [A pause. He debates on whether or not he should call the team out, considering anybody could be out there...like the Light or something. Who knows? On top of that, his scarab's not working, so he's sure things could get bad fast. Still couldn't hurt to try!]

Nightwing? Impulse? Robin? Anybody? What's going on? Where exactly are we...if we're all here anyw—

[When he looks off to the side for a moment, as something else caught his attention, his face shifts from confused to extremely freaked out once he sees what it actually is.]

—dios mio! You again? Why's a monster beetle following me around everywhere?!

[The camera's suddenly really shaky, but the view finally shifts to a Heracross moving toward the camera. It looks friendly enough and hasn't tried attacking him since he's been here. Said monster beetle actually looks kind of cool, but that's not the point here. To Jaime, cool-looking or not, beetles shouldn't be that big, and he doesn’t have his gear to fight it off, so he’s really terrified and his next step is to bolt again. Never mind that it's actually his new partner or anything since he was the one who opened the pokeball.]

[Not too long after you did, Cassie! Maybe even at the same time. Who knows? He didn't even bother looking around once he let Heracross out its ball and then ran away shortly after. Speaking of, he's still trying to reason with it, while it's just staring at him.]

Look, I don't know what you want with me, but the trees have way more to offer than I do...like sap or--

[Did someone just call his name?]

[Let him look down at that device again as he continues to back away from the Heracross until he hits a tree.]

Huh--Cassie?! You're here, too?

[What a sight for sore eyes.]

Where are you--we? What's going on?

[WAIT OH GOD IF SHE CONTACTED HIM LIKE THIS, DOES THAT MEAN--]

You. You didn't see all that, right?

[Then again, she's laughing, so that's probably a yes. If Heracross decided it wanted to, like, kill him or something, he'd be okay with that now. Only not really.]

[She's already trying to get a look around, and Donna is picking up on the fact she's looking for someone. All Cassie has left to decide is how soon to tell Jaime he's not in danger or if she should just wait until she finds him.

Luckily, since she doesn't know where he is or how far away, she'll be merciful. Besides, it wouldn't be cool if he had a heart attack on his first day here.]

Man, Jaime, relax! It's not gonna hurt you. That's your starter Pokemon. Didn't you ever play these games? [... Well no one said she couldn't TEASE HIM about it, right? Also, have a Riolu poking into view from Cassie's shoulder. See? POKEMON.]

And oh yeah. Totally saw that. So did anyone else watching this network. Sorry.

[Spoiler she's not really that sorry. That definitely took off some of the tension she felt about being stuck here, and seeing a familiar face was an infinite help, too.]

[This call is a little delayed, because he had to change clothes. "Robin" is, of course, a girl's name, but those other two sound like codenames. He'd been trying to avoid the costume, but hearing that...]

Uh, if you need to be rescued, you might have to wait a little bit. I don't have anything that flies yet.

Always? H-hey, don't panic! It's your Pokemon partner!

[But always?? Giant beetles are a thing in this kid's world?]

[GROAN. Now he's embarrassed. At least he's not trying to run away from Heracross anymore and he's calmed down since seeing a familiar face.]

[He stares at the little Riolu that just popped up. Oh, so he gets stuck with a giant beetle, but Cassie gets a cute little...puppy thing that's like an ideal size.]

Wait--my starter what?

[He gives it another look before he turns his attention back to the feed again. He was thinking Heracross reminded him more of the scarab, but now...]

[Heracross still hasn't done anything to him. It seems they're having a standoff now. Still, Jaime's pretty weirded out by the whole thing, but he calmed down some during the delay.]

I think I'm good. I just want to know why he keeps following me arou--

[He finally turned his attention back to the Pokegear and his eyes widened in surprise?]

Woah--Rob? You're actually here after all? [Squint.] decided to go for a new look?

[You don't know the half of it, Maka. He began walking away, but it's happening again. Heracross still won't let up.]

Seriously! I don't know what your deal is, but I'm 100% sure the tree sap is better than--

[He takes a moment to look back at the Pokegear once he hears a voice finally respond. On top of not recognizing his surroundings, he doesn't recognize her, either. He looks even more confused now.]

He's my what?

I see! You are young Robin's friend.

He will be very happy to see you I believe.

[Not running away from his starter is a good start, definitely. Good job, Jaime.]

Starter Pokemon. And apparently. Unless I'm right and I'm dreaming, which I'm pretty sure I'm not, because if I was this would be about ten times more awesome than it is right now.

Okay, never mind the time Nightwing sent people to the moon. This is officially the weirdest day ever.

[Heracross then shows up behind Jaime and knocks into him a bit, prompting him to let out a teeny, tiny shriek. Heracross, ignoring Jaime, offers a wave.]

Dude, if this is gonna work, you're gonna need to learn what personal space is.

Oh, uh. Thanks.

So how do you know him? If you don't mind me asking, anyway.

[He's never seen her before, but for all he knows, she could know him from home or something.]

[Why not? She likes stars. Why not give them as gifts? Also she just tries to refrain from looking terribly amused. Looks like your partner likes you at least.]

Tell me about it. I didn't think anything could top Team stuff on the weird-o scale.

[Oh wait, is she picking up an echo? She is! Which means-- yep. There he is! She'll shut off her gear then and lift her hand in a wave as she finishes backtracking.] Hey! Over here!

[She should probably be more alarmed, but finding a teammate here helped immensely. Two heads and sets of eyes and ears are way better than one- especially when powers aren't working.]

He follows you around because you released him from the Pokeball. Otherwise, he'd stay there and let you carry him.

[Strangers usually don't call him "Rob." They usually call him "Robin," "the Boy Wonder," or "Robin, the Boy Wonder." Dude was seriously informal or seriously confused.]

Look, it takes some time to get combobulated after landing here. I don't know how you define "new," the costume really only changes when I get taller.

I met him the first time I met him was about ... a year ago I believe. I met him through his friend Wally.

He and Wally disappeared from this world, but he surprised us all by returning quite recently. It seems he ... has no memories of his first time here though.

[As he was walking around, he picked up the echo, too. He stopped to look around until he heard the familiar voice call out to him. Wow, she was much closer than he anticipated.]

[Not even thinking twice, he ran over to her, followed by Heracross.]

[Try both informal and confused. Once he hears his voice again, he's thrown completely off. It sounds familiar, but he can't place why, yet.]

[Damn, that's disheartening. She suspected, of course, but actually having it confirmed that his armor isn't working either still kinda sucks. Maybe not so much surprising though.

Yeah. I was just ahead on route twenty-nine. I hadn't gotten too far though. My powers aren't working either. Game rules, I guess...? [No, seriously, that's her guess, because the heroes in these games never had any special powers, unless you counted making people feel especially generous.]

Man, am I glad to see you, though. This whole place is crazy! Have you talked to Robin-- I mean, Nightwing yet?
